For 15 years, I have helped Veterans and civilians address PTSD related to combat, sexual/physical assault, motor vehicle accidents, childhood abuse, domestic violence, and other types of traumatic events. They often ask how to "get over it", or how to have relationships when they have significant difficulty trusting others or allowing others in their "personal bubble."
Folks pursue sex therapy to increase pleasure, decrease pain, explore desire, obtain comfort with aspects of their identities, or meet other sexual health goals in a nonjudgmental and supportive safe space.
